‘One of the 50 must see destinations of a lifetime’ (National Geographic Traveller)
Unlike other yoga holidays in Kerala, this involves a whole range of different and exciting experiences as we'll be travelling to the best spots in the region, attending inspiring cultural events, discovering local life in the backwaters, experiencing a gorgeous beaches, sunrises and sunsets.
And we enjoy a deep yoga practice with mantra, mudra, meditation, relaxation.
"It was the best holiday ever. I found the North India trip last year transformational and inspiring....but this one surpassed all my expectations. Loved it all". Alistair Younger.
Days 1-3
A taxi will meet you at Trivandrum airport. Our journey begins near the holy beach town of Varkala in a secluded but very comfortable resort surrounded by white beaches and palm grove jungle. It's a very relaxing place and a great opportunity to unwind watching birds and butterflies from the comfort of a hammock.
Days 4-7
After 3 nights we head north and onto the beautiful backwaters. We spend a day on a boat travelling through the large waterway to Alleppey, and from here we'll travel by taxi to a more secluded, but very comfortable spot in the backwaters, where we can really get to observe (and interact with) local life. You'll be taken on local wooden canoe boats through canals, into villages and into small local enterprises to see how people make a living from natural resources - from matchsticks to coir-making. During this time we'll be practicing yoga once a day, each morning, and if time permits a meditation each evening.
Days 8-10
We travel to the historic town of Fort Cochin, a pretty place with Jewish, Arab, British, Chinese, Dutch, and Portuguese influences. We'll get to see the local dances and martial arts of Kerala with awe-inspiring live performances. Each morning we'll practice yoga before breakfast on a jetty out into a river.
Day 11
We head back down south and back to the beach.
Day 12
Relax and Rejuvenate by the beach.
Final Day: Breakfast, swim, shop, depart to Trivandrum airport.
"Tabitha shared some of the best kept secrets in south India. I had a really amazing adventure with both backwaters and beach as well as fantastic yoga. And made some lovely new friends" Lisa Paterson
